Roots @ UCSD

Roots @ UCSD is a registered on campus student organization working with the San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project.

Our Mission: Our mission is two-fold: generate cross-support for the San Diego Roots projects (such as Willow Glen and Terra Nova) and initiate efforts on campus emphasizing the vision and values of SD Roots.

What We’re Doing: Roots @ UCSD is currently working on several projects to educate the UCSD community (students & faculty alike) about the current agricultural system and encouraging it to work proactively to establish a more sustainable system for the San Diego region.  In collaboration with numerous student groups, faculty members, and the UC Sustainability Initiative we are:

  1. Planning farm education/volunteer days at La Milpa Organica for Summer and Fall 2008
  2. Hosting the SD Roots Film Series event in October
  3. Participating in sustainability awareness activities to distribute materials about sustainable food systems
  4. Planning other educational events for Winter and Spring 2009
  5. Actively probing the UCSD community for resources to support SD Roots’ projects
  6. And providing opportunities for students and faculty to be involved in the SD Roots organization as well!

Be involved! Currently, our vision surpasses our immediate resources so we would love any help you may be interested in offering!  Please contact Matt (info below) if you are interested!

Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, THE FUTURE OF FOOD examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as hugemultinational corporations seek to control the world's foodsystem. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing organic andsustainableagriculture as real solutions tothe farm crisis today.
