Roots Farm Potluck

Saturday, September 4

Volunteer Hours, Tours, potluck and movie night!

Our farm is all about community, so what better way to say that than by hosting a monthly community gathering? On the first Saturday of every month starting at 2pm we host tours, volunteer opportunities, a grand potluck dinner followed by a movie under the stars. Our first on is Saturday, August 7.

*Please bring something yummy to share (extra points for using organic, locally grown ingredients). Please label your dish and ingredients used if possible. Also bring a chair, plate, cup and eating utensils to help us keep this a zero-waste event. It may get breezy around sundown, so bring a jacket and warm clothing.

Saturday, September 18, 5 to 10pm

9928 Protea Gardens Road, Escondido California 92026

Potluck & Wood-fired Pizzas @ 5pm
Family-friendly Film after dark

This is the last chance to visit this little agricultural gem before they close at the end of September. Farms are nice places to hang out, and what Barry Logan has created here is a perfect example of how beautiful things happen when a community embraces a farm. We'll serve freshly made, wood-fired pizzas. After dark we'll show a family-friendly, inspiring movie under the oak trees. Rain cancels.

Please bring something tasty to share, a chair to sit on, and your own plate, cup & utensils to keep this event zero waste! Organic food is appreciated, local and organic is the best! Consider providing a dish description: organic, vegetarian, vegan, local, etc.

Nicotine Bees

Honeybees are dying off worldwide.
Now we know why.

Friday, September 10, 7:30pm FREE!
Refreshments provided at 7pm

Ramona Family Naturals
642 Main Street, Ramona, 92065

In 2005-2006, honeybees worldwide began dying simultaneously. Nicotine Bees gets to the truth about why the honeybees of the world are in big trouble, and why our food supply is in trouble with them. The answers are clear - and have been for several years. Filmed on 3 continents to find out the real reasons that bees are in catastrophic decline — and why many people don’t want the real story to be told — Nicotine Bees is ready to show what has happened.

After the film we'll engage in a discussion about the local food movement in our area and ways you can help support the return to locally grown, fresh and healthy food.

Seed Saving Workshop

Saturday, September 25, 10:30am to noon
San Diego City College
C St. and 14th St. Downtown San Diego 92101
Cost: $20.00

Historically, humans have benefited from an extraordinary diversity of about 7,000 plant species for food, each further expressed by thousands of varieties. We owe tremendous thanks to the farmers and gardeners of yore who have promoted this diversity through the ritual of seedsaving. We’ll delve into this time-tested craft, and save some seeds ready to be gathered in the farm’s garden. Bring your seeds to swap and share with other local gardeners!
